The course takes the listener from the beginning of the company a century ago to its present global status
In 1920, the late Mr. K. Raman, the great-grandfather of Benny Rohal and Rony Rohal, initiated a seafood trading business that included dried fish. He also engaged in fishing activities around Anjengo in Trivandrum, Kerala, operating wooden sailing boats for trade with nearby countries such as Ceylon, Singapore, Burma, and the Maldives.
In 1950, Mr. Raman’s elder son joined hands to transform the family’s proprietary business into a limited company called NATH CO Ltd, expanding its product line to include manufacturing coconut oil, soaps, hair oil, and more.
In 1982, Benny Rohal and Rony Rohal embarked on a journey to revolutionize the business by introducing mechanical boats for fishing, deep-sea fishing processing, freezing, and exporting to overseas clients, all under one umbrella. They renamed the company as Ron Maritime Ltd and acquired Deep Sea onboard processing vessels from Holland by the name Sea-Bay 1 and Sea-Bay 2.
In 1992, India initiated a liberalization policy for foreign investment. Ron Maritime joined hands with Meco Ltd Denmark and obtained various business licenses from the government of India for the first Indo-Danish Joint Venture in Deep Sea Fishing.
In the 21st century, the company shifted its focus away from fishing operations and ventured into owning small Ocean-going Cargo Ships, Barges, Small Tankers, etc. The company also added other multifaceted activities like Ship Management, Bunkering, International Trading, River-Sea Shipping, Sale and Purchase of Ships, Scraps HMS 1&2 Copper, Aluminium, etc.
Currently, the company has made Ship Management its core business and intends to expand its worldwide offices in Denmark, Dubai, Singapore, and its hometown.
